Roko's Basilisk is a science fiction roleplay group based loosely on the basilisk thought experiment by Roko. Your character will be an inhabitant of the evacuation vessel, a rogue colony fleeing the ruins of the earth to escape the grasp of a corrupt government, seeking freedom in the cosmos.
 

The year is 3034, technological advancement in engineering and computation has reached a pinnacle - AI walk among the common man. Despite the paradise this technology has built for many, it has divided the earth in two;  Eden and Earth. While the people of earth suffer in filth, oppressed by totalitarian puppet governments overpopulated to a stifling degree the people of Eden bask in the luxurious hedonism of the new technologies. The people of Eden know nothing of the slavery of the majority population, educated and indoctrinated from a young age to be numbed to such plights.

After all, what could one person possibly do?

So many governments, so many cultures, so many people… certainly nothing could be done. Behind each government, behind each leader of academia and economy, there is a past of advanced indoctrination as they learn the sacred truth.

The cause of this begins in the year 2900, the political leaders of the world gathered to create a computer deep below the earth’s surface large enough to power an AI that would advise these leaders how best to run their nation. They named it Basilisk, for it saw into every device connected to the internet, and could tell it’s creators who in their nation was a threat to them.

Little did they know one day the Basilisk would demand a physical form, little did they know over time the Basilisk had begun to build the world to it’s warped, inhuman vision.

By the time year 3033 came, all governments were controlled by the Basilisk, all information, and each government official implanted a loyalty device that allowed them to see into the monster if AI just as it saw into them. To those loyal, the beast offered immortality through technology and unbridled power. Eden was made of this.

One powerful man from the inside, jaded by visions of the conditions Earth lived in, dug the loyalty device from his flesh, constructed a ship, and with a small crew took to the stars to escape the world the Basilisk had created. Fearing he’d reach the interplanetary colonies or find a way to defeat him, the Basilisk would stop at nothing to destroy the apostate vessel.
